The Speculations Readings Series continues monthly at DreamHaven Books, 2301 E 38th St., Minneapolis, usually Wednesdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. The readings include an autographing and an expedition to a South Minneapolis bistro to build a sense of community among Twin Cites writers and readers.

On Wednesday, Apriil 17, TERRRY FAUST, presents his work. Terry Faust writes mainstream young adult novels and humorous science0 fiction spoofs. The first in his series of young adult urban fantasy novels, Bearer of the Pearls: Episode One of the River Rangers, was released by North Star Press St. Cloud in June of 2017. Z is for Xenophobe is a sci-fi satire published in 2011 by Sam’s Dot Publshing. And, his first young adult novel, To Build a Blackbird, was just added to MN Writes MN Reads biblioboard, making it available for free in digital form from area libraries. His short work has appeared in Stupefying Stories, Tales of the Unanticipated, and Boundaries Without by Calumet Editions. He’s had stories in several Minnesota Speculative Fiction anthologies published by Alban Lake. He has been a member of Minnesota Speculative Fiction since 2005. His Speculations presentation will include his playing of an audio drama.

Speculations is a co-production of DreamHaven and SF Minnesota.

Diversicon is a project of SF MINNESOTA, a multicultural, multimedia organization dedicated to improving contacts among groups and individuals interested in speculative fiction, in and out of the traditional SF community. Our continuing mission: to provide the most thoughtful Programming and the mellowest, most welcoming Parties of any Minnesota SF convention, and to making our state’s SF community more closely reflect the cultural diversity of Minnesota in the third millennium.

Author Guest of Honor: Eleanor Arnason
Twin Cities resident Eleanor Arnason has participated in many local SF cons and the Rivendell discussion group. Her novel A Woman of the Iron People won the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award in 1992 as well as the first-ever James Tiptree Jr. Award. For a list of Elanor’s published works see her Wikipedia article.

Scholar Guest of Honor: Brian Attebery
Brian Atterberry is an emeritus professor at Idaho State University, editor of the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts and three-time recipient of the Mythoeic Award. For a list of Brian’s published works see his Wikipedia article.

Posthumous Guests of Honor
Diversicon observes the lives and works of two Posthumous Guests (Ghosts?) of Honor:

L. Frank Baum (1856 - 1919)
Baum wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and 13 additional Oz books, 41 other novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems and at least 42 scripts.

Clifford D. Simak (1904 - 1988) Simak wrote for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune from 1939 to 1976. Simak’s many Science Fiction novels and short stories won him three Hugos and two Retro Hugos, as well as Nebula, Locus and Jupiter Awards.
